As a native Kentuckian, the mountains and its music have always been magical to me. Even in times of despair because of strip mining and poverty, there has always been music to be found in the Appalachian Mountains, along with beauty, kind people and good humor. It is said that, in the early 20th century, musicologists from the British Isles traveled to these mountains to study its music and its Celtic origin, music still performed today on front porches, churches, and community gatherings.
